SIDEWALK

Repertory

Sidewalk was commissioned by Works & Process at the Guggenheim. The creation of Sidewalk was also made possible in part by the support of the Green Box Arts Festival in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado.

Sidewalk, set to Steve Reich’s Pulitzer-Prize winning “Double Sextet,” seamlessly combines pedestrian movement and KEIGWIN + COMPANY’s explosive athleticism as it explores the daily activity of a crowded city sidewalk. Driven by a propulsive score, the company performs dynamic and contrasting movement that reflect the moods and attitudes found on a city’s walkway.  Commissioned by Works & Process at the Guggenheim, Sidewalk was created site-specifically and showcases the dancers as they follow a circular sidewalk within the Guggenheim’s iconic space.

SIDEWALK feels like a very New York Dance (and very Reich) in its energetic cool. Impelled by its own inner life and with ‘Double Sextet’ as its engine, it creates its own world, while open to the larger world beyond dance.”
