Bolero on the Big Screen: Coming 2021
Seven years ago, I experienced a moment of inspiration while sitting poolside at my parents’ retirement community. I envisioned a vibrant group of seniors as we followed them over the course of a day at the pool. Reality elevated, the ordinary becomes the extraordinary, and their meetings and greetings become a dance.
This moment of inspiration has become Bolero Seniors.
After the past year spent in development with Producer Andrea Lodico, this fall, we completed our first round of shooting of Bolero Seniors. We spent a week in Oklahoma City, OK with our amazing director Andy Kokoszka and crew, showcasing the talents of our five featured performers — Liz, Paulette, John, Dot, and Wade — as they get ready to hit the pool.
The magic of Bolero is now being made a cinematic reality and this is just the beginning. Click play above for a short teaser of Bolero Seniors.
Your support has helped bring Bolero Seniors to this important moment and I could not be more grateful. And there is more to be done! In 2021, we return to OKC to capture our seniors dance the water ballet in the pool, a poignant celebration of aging and the joy of dance. The translation of Bolero to film requires a large talented family of collaborators, technicians, cast members, equipment, craft services, golf carts, floats, pool noodles, bathing caps, and much more.
Each Bolero has taught me the power of community and the impact of participating in dance-making. As I collaborate with Andy and our team to bring Bolero to film, I am so inspired by this community, their voracious creativity, and the opportunity to share this dynamic celebration of artistry and vitality at any age.
With warm wishes,
